About Us

Buchananjail.com is a website created with the goal of letting our site visitors know more about the jail system as well as what happens behind the bars. Our aim is to continuously strive for a safer and more refined jail system through information dissemination that is being offered in this site.

To make the prisons safer and easier to manage, male and female prisoners are typically kept in separate prisons or in separate locations.  Prison accommodations are often characteristic of two wings.  There’s a wing designed for convicted prisoners and the other wing is for the prisoners who have not yet undergone trial and sentencing if found guilty.  The ones with no money for bail or choose not to use bailbonds are held here till their court and trial date.

Mainly, prisons have a main entrance known as the gatelodge.  The most modern of facilities include a religious facility, education facility, gym, healthcare facility, segregation unit and visiting area.  The religious facility houses the chaplaincy office and is the place where inmates can get counseling as individuals or in groups.  With regard to education, the education facility has a library where adult education opportunities can be continued.  The gym can be called an exercise yard which is a fenced open air place for prisoners to do exercise or engage in recreational activities like sports.

The healthcare facility or hospital is a regular part of jail facilities in order that the health and overall state of the inmates are always looked after be it physical or mental.  A block or an isolation cell is other names for the segregation unit.  It is used to separate the vulnerable or the most dangerous and unruly of prisoners from the general population.  Being locked up in isolation is also seen as a form of punishment in that the inmate is solitary confined.  The visiting area is where jail inmates are allowed to have restricted contact with family, relatives, friends and lawyers.

Other jails and prisons might have other facilities and these include safe cells, vulnerable prisoners section, death row, service facilities, staff accommodation area or industrial or agricultural plants operated with convict labor.
