Jail Inspections

With programs created by legislature or otherwise that deal with jail inspection, the compliance with minimum jail standards are monitored more easily and as a result, improvement of the facilities can be done.

Jail inspections see to it that staff implement and interpret the rules well and licenses are issued.  There can be jailer-training classes for jail employees so that they could be working more efficiently towards the rehabilitation of jail inmates.  Jail inspections can also shed light and give technical assistance if necessary in a certain facility.  Complaints, jail deaths, attempted suicides and escapes can also be looked into and corrected with routine jail inspections occurring throughout the year.

The heart of any program is the standards that it has.  With the process of inspection, standards are ensured to be solidly established which makes the performance of a jail efficient.  Jail inspections ensure the continuum of activities that are in compliance with the program for both the officers in the jail facility and the jail inmates.

Jail inspection encompasses an actual onsite inspection of the facility and the physical jail.  Audit of the facility’s documentation is also included here.  This verifies compliance with the standards on an ongoing basis.  The process is mainly that of auditing, documenting, reporting and re-inspecting.

It comes with preparation for the inspection then the conduction of the inspection occurs.  After the inspection, an exit interview is conducted to make a final report that can cover the compliance monitoring system of the whole jail system.  This way, deficiencies can be corrected over time and improvement takes place.
