Jail systems mainly keep male and female prisoners in separate locations or separate prisons.  In modern times, jails are mainly divided into two sections.  One is for the convicted prisoners and one is for the prisoners who have not yet undergone trial.

Depending on the location and the laws, the jail systems that a certain prison facility might have differ from others.  No matter what kind of system they have or if they have a varying degree or component to one part, it is all towards the education and rehabilitation of the jail inmates in that they learn to be productive members of society.
